Are Cheap Appliances Worth Buying?

Monday March 15, 2010

When you need a new appliance for your kitchen, there is always the problem of price to think about. The first issue is how much you can afford to spend, and then within those bounds you have to try and find the best appliance you can.

But regardless of whether you need a new fridge, a new freezer, a washing machine or anything else, you have to consider whether you want to get a really cheap one or something a bit more expensive. Are cheap appliances worth the money or will they let you down at some point in the near future?

For the most part cheaper appliances are still reasonably good quality. They have to be of a certain quality to be suitable for sale in the first place. But you do need to think about what you are getting before you buy anything. It stands to reason that a cheap fridge freezer is not going to have as many functions or features as a much more expensive model. However it doesn’t mean it will be completely worthless. It all depends on your budget and what you would ideally like to have.

For example a cheap fridge freezer is not going to have a water dispenser included as part of the design. It will be cheap and cheerful but it will still freeze your food perfectly and keep your fridge at the correct temperature. And since these are the main functions you want from this appliance, a cheap one will give you the basics without any fuss at all.

The problems occur when you want more functions but you don’t have the money to afford them. In this situation it can be tempting to buy the absolute cheapest model which has more functions on it. In all cases the best bet is to find some reviews of that model online so you can see whether you like what it has to offer you. If the reviews are good you can think about investing in that model. If not, move on until you find one that is cheap enough for your needs but gives you everything you want as well.

You can see that cheap appliances can work just as well as more expensive ones. Hopefully your new appliances will last many years, but regardless of what you spend on them you should make sure that they are the ones you really want.
