Let’s say you need to go out and buy a brand new dishwasher. Maybe your old one has finally broken down irretrievably, or perhaps you haven’t actually owned one before and you’ve decided to give one a try. Whatever the situation might be, which brand would you opt for?
Brands are big business when it comes to kitchen appliances. Bosch, Hotpoint, Neff, Zanussi, AEG and many more besides – they are all available in plenty of different formats and appliances, so you’ll always have a huge choice.
But brands can also be confusing. Some people have one or two that they have always bought because they’ve always had the best service from them. In those circumstances you would probably be mad to change when you are that pleased with something. But supposing you don’t have any loyalty to a brand? How do you choose which one will be best for you this time around?
A lot will depend on the amount of money you have to spend. Some brands are known for being rather more expensive than others. If your budget doesn’t stretch to their products you can safely rule them out of the running. Similarly you might want to opt for the cheaper end of the market anyway, and that could result in buying a brand you aren’t familiar with.
This is where branding comes into play in a different way. For instance, if you have never heard of a particular brand before, would you consider buying a kitchen appliance from that maker? Some people wouldn’t, because they would have no prior knowledge of them at all. If it is a name you know and you are familiar with in some way, you would be more inclined to form an opinion – even if that opinion isn’t spot on.
You can see then that branding plays an important role in how we buy our kitchen appliances. If we are looking for a top of the range dishwasher we might find a brand that we have heard good things about. We would also avoid those brands that have had a bad press in recent times for one reason or another.
Which brands do you have in your kitchen right now? Would you stay with the same ones or would you rather go and use something else? The next time you are set up to buy a new appliance you should consider your brands very carefully indeed.
