How Much Time Do You Spend Choosing Your Kitchen Appliances?

Tuesday November 17, 2009

If you are remodelling your kitchen and you intend to replace all your appliances, it is going to cost you a four figure sum to do so.

That’s why it is hugely important for you spend plenty of time considering which appliances you want, and whether they will meet your needs in your new kitchen. If you jump into the first deal you see, you might end up regretting it.

Deals are a common sight in kitchen showrooms up and down the country. But you can also find them online. The question is whether that particular deal is going to give you the appliances you need. One of these special deals can knock several hundred pounds off the price you would otherwise pay for all the separate appliances. For example, you will pay a lot less if you get a package deal which includes an oven, hob and extractor fan than you would if you paid for them all separately.

For starters the best thing to do is to make a list of all the appliances you will need to buy for your new kitchen. Go round the kitchen you have now and make sure each item is listed – it’s easier than you think to miss one out if you have a lot to order!

Once you have done that jot some notes next to each one. These should include important points to remember – features that you would like each appliance to have. For example, you might want to have a stainless steel oven, hob and hood to match each other. You might want your oven to be an under counter one. You might need your new washing machine to have a bigger drum. And what about your new fridge freezer? Would an integrated model fit the bill? Perhaps a big American model would be what you want?

No matter which kitchen appliances you want, you need to write down as much as possible now. That way, when it comes to actually buying them you won’t be tempted into a package deal that actually won’t suit your needs at all.

You can see now how spending some time making this purchasing decision will lead to a much better result in the end. Of course you need to bear in mind that certain appliances may be required to be fitted at different times of the decorating process. So you need to make sure you give yourself plenty of time beforehand to explore the market, find the appliances you want for the best prices, and then get them delivered in plenty of time.

In this sense you might say that appliance package deals aren’t always as good as you think they are. There are some great deals around, to be sure, but if they don’t encompass the appliances you really want you won’t enjoy them if you decide to buy them.

So is it time to decide which ones you want yet? If it is, you’d better get that notepad out!
