Most of us have a washing machine either in the kitchen or – if we have the space in a utility room. But not everyone has a washer dryer. The question is, is it worth having one in the first place?
There is no doubt that a washer dryer is a bit of a luxury to some people. It is more expensive to run than simply allowing your washing to dry naturally, and this fact alone puts some people off buying one.
But there is a definite advantage to having one in your home. When it comes to the summer and we’ve got the sunshine every day, there is nothing better than hanging the washing out to dry in the garden.
But that isn’t possible when it gets to October time and the last of the dry sunny days are long gone. When that happens we need to think about drying the washing in some other way. The obvious method is to hang it on radiators or to have it on airers, perhaps over the bath or in another room.
However that can be a problem if you have got visitors coming round. We’ve all had that unexpected visitor that leaves us running around getting rid of all the washing from sight, haven’t we? And needless to say if we had a washer dryer we probably wouldn’t have had to do that. We would have used the dryer instead.
The other key benefit of having one is that they are good for drying something in a hurry. If you are going out in a few hours time and you realise your favourite top is in the washing bin, you can wash it and have it dry and ironed in time to go out. That wouldn’t be an option if you didn’t have a washer dryer.
Obviously it pays to be smart when you have one though. If you can dry the washing outside so much the better – and of course you get that lovely fresh smell when you do so as well. You will definitely use it more in the winter than you would in the summer, and at this time of year it really is a godsend.
So yes it probably is worth having one in your home if you can afford it. Even if you don’t use it a lot it is nice knowing you have it to rely on.
